INCOGNITO

On May 2, 2009, the Santa Monica Museum of Art hosted its fifth annual INCOGNITO, a benefit exhibition and art sale. There were 674 pieces, each 8 x 10 inches and priced at $300. Some pieces are by big name artists like Barbara Kruger and Ed Ruscha. Others are by total unknowns. The catch is, buyers don’t find out who they’ve bought until after they’ve handed over their money.

Each piece of art is tagged with a number — patrons trade the tag (and $300) for the actual work and the name of the artist who created it.

The doors to the show open and patrons rush to claim pieces of art.

Patrons flood the exhibition.
